Right now it is snowing – fat, wet, springtime flakes – just enough to accumulate in a few patches.
But last week, there were a couple beautiful spring days. The sun, the warmth – the garden beckoned.

The black plastic isn’t the most attractive method for prepping our bed. Yes, some may even call it trashy looking. But it’s functional and inexpensive, and the girls had a great time sliding around on it. The cardboard with the rocks is where I want to put another raised bed. That cardboard spent much of the winter on the larger bed, and when I began lifting it up off the established bed I found a few small green shoots poking up underneath it. At first I thought they were crocuses, but upon smelling one I realized they are the garlic from last year. Our very first sprout of the season!
